The Rise of Rome

Designer Notes

The Rise of Rome is a simulation pitting the Human player against a panoply of historical adversaries determined to prevent the rise of Rome and its domination of the Mediterranean World.

Starting in 273BC, the simulation follows the endless series of wars that lead to the triumph of Rome. Early confrontations and victories over the powerful states of Carthage and Macedonia eventually involve Rome in the great Eastern wars against Asiatic empires like Pontus, Parthia, Egypt and Persia.

The Rise of Rome requires the player to formulate a sound strategic plan to acquire and hold territory. The goal is to prevent revolts and turn these territories into provinces. Once that happens the process of Romanization can begin in which the conquered people totally identify with the state. Over time the wealth and happiness of the provinces will increase furnishing the state with more manpower and money.
